In the second installment of our Next Up series, we are introduced to the Divinities. Much like TLR&Co., they also have an interesting story and embraced their surroundings to emerge as a popular brand among the locals. Their hardwork has paid off and have been able to gain momentum since 2010 and found a way into one of Los Angeles’ premier shopping destinations, Hall of Fame located on Fairfax Ave. Chris of the Divinities breaks it down to us and gives an inside look into the company. Read on after the jump.

Name: Divinities
Year Started: 2010
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Major Successes: Nothing and Everything we’ve done.
Favorite Item From Brand: We can’t really favor an item over another item. Honestly every piece was great in it’s own way.

SS: How did the start of the brand come about?

Chris: My younger brother and I have been around the clothing atmosphere for a while, which at the time was something different from what our school friends were into. Just being surrounded by the culture more and more I realized I wouldn’t want to be around anything else so one day we discussed what we could do and where we could be eventually and decided to start the brand.

SS: What are your influences?

Chris: The so-called “Street Culture” is a big part of our influence from the art we see to the music we listen to.

Our other influences come from skateboarding, the designers before us, and of course our friends (Dertbag Design, DPI by thebrandwithnoname, Peas & Carrots, CLSC, Bloopset, and Freed Minds).

SS: Where would you like to be a year from now?

Chris: A year from now we’d like to have a bigger following from now. Possibly a few more retailers and of course expand within the brand by hopefully diving into cut and sew and accessories.

SS: What sets you apart from other brands?

Chris: You can’t really separate us from other brands because we all have some sort of similarities but what makes us different at the end of the day is the concepts we create and our own rendition to our pieces.

SS: What obstacles have you come across as you try to break into the industry?

Chris: There are always endless obstacles to over come but one of the biggest things is brand integrity and by this we mean if we made something just because you like it we’d be going against ourselves.

SS: Best piece of advice received?

Chris: “Make it happen” – C.A.

To get your shit done and to Go Fuck Yourself.

Don’t do something you don’t have knowledge on.

SS: What is something you could’ve done differently?

Chris: Everything we’ve done so far is what we wanted and we don’t need to change any of that.
