Josh of CLSC shares his interesting story of learning how to make shirts to how they got their start and some of the troubles they’ve faced in the past. SS: How did the start of the brand come about?
Josh: Nelson and myself ( co owner/Sales ) worked for another up coming brand and left. We started CLSC mainly because the other brand sucked. I wanted to support and run a brand I actually wanted to wear. so I learned illustrator and photoshop and made a couple tees. We got a good response from it so we decided to push it like our lives depended on it. We love what we do. Have since day one.
SS: What are your influences?
Josh: Any other brand that started from scratch. All these other brands that are pushed by rappers or investors can suck a dick. we started with the money we had from our shitty part time jobs and some how managed to make two dollars out of one. Anybody that started the way we did really drives us to be better. knowing that a regular cat from the suburbs can create a world known brand is what gives us hope.
SS: Where would you like to be a year from now?
Josh: On a beach making love to a beautiful woman. As for the brand, more accounts would be nice.
SS: What sets you apart from other brands?
Josh: Authenticity. As much as we look up to other brands, we dont copy their stlye. Alot of newer brands look like the big dogs with shittier graphics and horrible quality. We make sure every piece would be worn by ourselves. We dont make crazy color t shirts because we dont wear crazy color t shirts. Plain and simple.
SS: What obstacles have you come across as you try to break into the industry?
Josh: Besides competetion, finding accounts that you can trust. For the bigger accounts that have been around for a while and are well known, everything usually runs fine. but then there are the smaller accounts that will pick your shit up, take weeks to pay you, (if they even do), then you go show up to check on your product and the place is closed down or dude got fired or some other bullshit that smaller brands have to deal with. Other than that, not having alot of money can fuck your hopes and dreams in the ass sometimes.
SS: Best piece of advice received?
Josh: Inconsistency will kill you. – Ben Hundreds
SS: What is something you could’ve done differently?
Josh: Not gone to jail. That fucked a lot of shit up. dont go to jail kids. Shit sucks.
